SUMMER POSITION! Emergency Preparedness and Community Needs Assessment

Ford County Health Department - Paxton

The AmeriCorps member in this position will focus on emergency preparedness and community needs assessment at the Ford County Health Department through activities including to learn the Public Health Emergency Preparedness program and attend respective meetings; assist with West Nile Virus monitoring activities as requested; assist with developing social media/outreach tool kit for FCPHD MRC and work with Vermilion County MRC coordinator to establish a better volunteer program; develop and potentially coordinate a summer disaster preparedness education program for children; assist with the development of and/or preparation of bioterrorism and emergency preparedness-related exercises, presentation; reach and learn about PODs and serving as a POD volunteer coordinator while working with long term care facilities becoming closed PODs; and assist with the coordination and development of a community needs assessment/IPLAN. SUMMER POSITION! Environmental Health - Mosquito Vector Surveillance

Jersey County Health Department - Jerseyville

The AmeriCorps member in this position will focus on at the Jersey County Health Department through activities including to set gravid mosquito traps (includes set up, placement and adding bait); retrieve traps; transportation of all equipment; monitor and maintain gravid traps and supplies; identify and test mosquitoes for the presence of West Nile Virus using VecTest; larvicide mosquito breeding areas; pick up dead birds for West Nile Virus testing; document archiving; and social media advertising.  See below for full position description.

SUMMER POSITION! Community Health - Public Health Marketing

Clay County Health Department - Flora

The AmeriCorps member in this position will focus on Community Health Education and Public Health Marketing at the Clay County Health Department through activities including creating a YouTube channel for the Beyond the Bell afterschool program, a program aimed at addressing the social determinants of health; providing oversight and direction of 4-6 high school youth to develop video content for recruitment and promotion in the Beyond the Bell afterschool program; and providing oversight and education for youth ages 11-17 in summer youth program. Topic and work areas include, but are not limited to:  mentoring, academic performance (prevention of summer slump), physical activity (bike club, Marathon Kids), nutrition and community garden activities, college and career readiness activities. The AmeriCorps member in this position will focus on health education at the Kendall County Health Department through activities such as providing support to programs within the department, participating in and completing necessary trainings, coordinating the creation of a presentation intended to provide community partners and stakeholders with a mid-cycle update on efforts to implement 5-year Community Health Improvement Plan and participating in the completion of an annual report required for professional accreditor, Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).  See link below for full position description.
